Blackhawks Dominate Week, Cap Series Win Over Iowa Lakes
Southeastern Community College put together an impressive all-around week, winning five games and showcasing both explosive offense and dominant pitching at home in Burlington.
The week began on March 31 with a 17-5 win over Marshalltown CC. After a quiet start, the Blackhawks erupted for nine runs in the third inning and never looked back. Gavin Awbrey drove in three runs, while Nile Sinn powered the offense with four RBIs. Southeastern totaled 12 hits and drew nine walks in the win.
Southeastern carried that momentum into April 1 with a commanding 16-2 victory over Illinois Central. Jackson Petsche led the way with two home runs and five RBIs, while James Nydegger added three RBIs of his own. On the mound, Nolan Meis was sharp, allowing just one earned run over five innings with seven strikeouts, and the bullpen combined for four hitless innings.
The Blackhawks opened their series against Iowa Lakes on April 3 with a dominant doubleheader sweep.
In game one, Southeastern rolled to an 11-1 win behind a complete performance from Kyler Kaczmarski, who allowed just two hits and struck out six over six innings. Offensively, Danny Rollins had a huge game, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Tayvon Holomar added three hits and two RBIs.
Game two saw Southeastern secure a 9-1 victory behind another strong outing on the mound. Isaac Flamino was outstanding, tossing eight scoreless innings while striking out eight. Jake Miller, James Nydegger, and Efrain Osorio each drove in runs, while the Blackhawks capitalized on nine walks to control the game.
Southeastern completed the series win on April 4 with a 6-4 comeback victory. After falling behind 4-0 early, the Blackhawks responded with a five-run fourth inning to take control. Tayvon Holomar delivered three RBIs in the game, while Efrain Osorio scored twice and collected two hits.
Out of the bullpen, Luke Scherrman earned the win with 4.2 shutout innings and seven strikeouts. The pitching staff was exceptional after the early deficit, holding Iowa Lakes scoreless over the final seven innings to secure the win.
Across the five games, Southeastern outscored opponents 59-13, combining timely hitting with dominant pitching performances. The Blackhawks continue to build momentum as they move deeper into conference play.
